The first building block of our patent-protected solution is Silent Tags, or tags that work on closed identification. That is, they only reply when interrogated with their unique individual ID, which is sufficiently long to prevent guessing by trial-and-error.

Silent Tags cannot be detected in non-trusted environments, where their ID is unknown. This brings significant advantages in terms of privacy and security, both for consumers and industry. It also has important advantages in terms of tag cost and reliability because Silent Tags do not require anti-collision or disabling mechanisms, and their simplicity makes them suitable for manufacturing using printed electronics – potentially the cheapest way of building a tag.

The second building block of our solution is the Intelligent Object Tracking System, which consists of a network of readers directed by intelligent software able to “predict” the likely location of objects so their IDs can be dynamically distributed within the trusted network. For example, if a tagged object moves out of a zone and so stops replying to its assigned reader, its ID is immediately sent to all surrounding zones so it can be polled until the object is detected afresh and re-assigned to its new zone.



In summary, Friendly Technologies has developed a new Intelligent Tracking approach where the network knows which tags a given reader needs to poll, and Silent Tags only respond to confirm their ID when they hear it. The privacy and security problems are solved because the chance of a rogue reader guessing a tag ID is negligible. The cost issue is solved thanks to the possibility of printing our much simpler tags.
